Amy Maury is a PhD student in the Behavior, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCaN) program at American University. Her research interests focus on dietary interventions for depression and sleep disorders and the relationship with the gut microbiome. She holds an M.S. degree in Neuroscience and a B.S. in Environmental Science. Her masters thesis explored depression and blood biomarker changes after one month on the low gluatmate diet in veterans with Gulf War Illness (GWI). Her dissertation research aims to investigate the gut microbiota in Gulf War Illness and how it changes relative to depression before and after one mon on the low glutamate diet. She will also explore changes in inflammatory biomarkers and their relationship to microbial changes in the gut, gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, and sleep and depression changes.
