Dr. Sara Rosenkranz is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Prior to her current role, she was a faculty member for 10 years at Kansas State University in the Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health. There, she served as the Director of the Bridges to the Baccalaureate NIH R25 grant program, helping to recruit and train promising students from community colleges in Southwest Kansas, providing opportunities for first generation and underrepresented students pursuing their baccalaureate degrees in biomedical sciences, setting in motion pathways to graduate education. Dr. Rosenkranz is also currently funded by the USDA, the California Strawberry Commission, and MGP Ingredients. With a background in psychology, kinesiology (behavioral), and human nutrition, Dr. Rosenkranz has focused on lifestyle behavioral interventions and their effects on cardiometabolic and psychological outcomes. She has substantive experience with small scale community-based behavioral trials, particularly in young people. Within these trials, she focuses on physical activity, dietary quality, and sedentary behavior. Dr. Rosenkranz currently serves on the Editorial board for the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, as well as the Program Committee for the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. She previously served as a committee member on the American Heart Association Council on Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health, helping to write a scientific statement titled “Physical Activity as a Critical Component of First-Line Treatment for Elevated Blood Pressure or Cholesterol: Who, What, and How?” She was also a co-author on a seminal paper on sedentary behavior, “Sedentary Behavior Research Network (SBRN) - Terminology Consensus Project,” which helped to establish a shared definition of sedentary behavior for use in future research.
