Global Nutrition Specialist (Independent Consultant)

Dr. Zeina Makhoul, PhD, RDN, is a Global Nutrition Specialist working as an independent consultant at SPOON, a US-based global organization dedicated to improving nutrition and feeding for children with disabilities and children without family care. She has over 17 years of experience designing and implementing research studies and inclusive, multi-sectoral nutrition and feeding programs in over 15 countries. In her role at SPOON, she designs and implements programs in healthcare, community, school, and residential care settings, including SPOON’s digital health app Count Me In, to improve care for children vulnerable to malnutrition. She is currently Principal Investigator on two studies in Uganda and Zambia that aim to fill gaps in nutrition and feeding data on SPOON’s population of children in order to strengthen the evidence base and inform nutrition policies and programming for children in residential care and children with disabilities. Additionally, Dr. Makhoul authored over 60 training modules and resources on nutrition and disability topics and has facilitated training for both technical and non-technical audiences, through traditional and online platforms.
