Dr. Onikia Brown (PI) is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Associate Professor of Nutrition in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Auburn University, and co-founder of Hunger-Free Higher Ed and Alabama Campus Coalition for Basic Needs (ACCBN). She is an expert in employing Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to examine the nutritional determinants, consequences, and prevention of diet-related health disparities and has extensive experience with large multi-site data sets. Dr. Brown has developed, implemented, and evaluated community-based interventions to decrease obesity in 14 Alabama counties (ALPROHEALTH, funded by CDC) and prevent unwanted weight gain in college students from 13 US universities (GetFruved & YEAH, both funded by USDA: AFRI). Dr. Brown is also a member of the NC-1193 multi-state research group, which focuses on promoting health and nutrition in diverse communities of emerging adults. Dr. Brown is currently working on projects specifically related to decreasing food insecurity.
