Katherine works at USDA-ARS’s Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center with the Methods and Application of Food Composition Laboratory Food and Nutrition Research Group. She is responsible for the management and expansion of several NIH-funded Special Interest Database (SID) projects investigating the analytical composition of foods, beverages, and dietary supplements with respect to iodine, nitrates & nitrites, and purines. Katherine received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences. Her previous research focus allows her to bring unique insights to food composition research by incorporating her knowledge of environmental growing conditions, agricultural management practices, and public health principles. Prior to working with USDA-ARS, Katherine was employed for many years in environmental consulting as a laboratory manager where she oversaw all physical and hydrological testing on soils and mining waste, produced client-tailored laboratory reports, and assisted in the development of internal databases used to improve laboratory performance.
