Through my experience in leading both large- and small-scale community trials that utilized mixed method approaches and community-based participatory research, I have evolved into a highly competent and passionate researcher invested on improving diet-related health disparities among racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse populations. With a research portfolio that is comprised of publications in nutritional epidemiology and the design and implementation of community nutrition interventions, my overall goals are to examine and improve dietary behaviors and patterns that will help vulnerable populations achieve health equity. I am currently serving as the PI for a project funded by the Center for Chronic Disease Reduction and Equity Promotion Across Minnesota (C2Dream) program with the aim of examining the feasibility and acceptability of a culturally tailored intervention promoting a Mediterranean-style diet pattern (MedDiet) among Hispanic/Latine families. My prior community-engaged grant examined preferred intervention delivery methods of Hispanic families while also enabling me to build strong working collaborations with stakeholders of the Hispanic/Latine community in the Twin Cities.
