Izabelle “Izzy” Mendez, B.S., B.S., M.S.
Izzy Mendez has received two Bachelors of Science, her first in Biology and her second in dietetics and nutrition from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also received her Master of Science in nutrition epidemiology program from the University of Maryland, College Park in August 2022. Her research focused on validating a screening tool that home delivered meal (HDM) programs could use for assessing food insecurity (measuring the economic, physical, and social access dimensions) in homebound older adults and for quickly determining who is most in need of prepared meals delivered to their home. Izzy first joined NIHMD DIR as a Graduate Summer Opportunities to Advance Research (G-SOAR) intern May 30, 2022, and became a Postbaccalaureate on August 15, 2022. Her work at NIHMD has focused on racial-ethnic disparities in financial hardship and the impact on weight change during the pandemic and the other on the age disparities on financial hardship and the impact on weight change during the pandemic.
