Dr. Ruth Pobee is a Nutrition and Emergency Medicine Scientist with over 15 years of experience in health-related research, specializing in maternal and child nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies (particularly iron deficiency), psychosocial and growth assessment, as well as community outreach and development. Her previous work includes enhancing food security through improvements in rice-based weaning products and micronutrient fortification for infant feeding and assessing the link between iron deficiency and psychosocial health in pregnant women.
Dr. Pobeeās current work focuses on Emergency Medicine research, spearheading and directing numerous clinical and community-based research projects, including hypertension, diabetes, social determinants of health, and racial ethnic, and gender disparity research in Emergency Medicine. She managed and directed a nationwide COVID-19 clinical trial and racial ethnic and gender disparities among COVID-19 hypertension population in Chicago. She is also the lead investigator for a longitudinal study examining the feasibility of family-centered cardiopulmonary resuscitation training to increase survival rates of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest among racial and ethnic minoritized populations, while also exploring the impact of environmental and neighborhood characteristics on hemoglobin status in pregnant women in Chicago.
