PhD Candidate
University of Manitoba, Canada
I am a PhD candidate and Vanier Scholar in Food and Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. I have been working in research since my first year as an undergraduate student with 11 years of research experience. I worked in various projects ranging from food composition and animal studies to clinical trials. My PhD research is on lipid metabolism and more specifically on how dietary fatty acids influence oxylipin formation. Oxylipins are bioactive metabolites of fatty acids, and they act similarly to hormones mediating fatty acids effects in the body. The most fascinating part about this to me, is understanding how the diet can modulate the oxylipin profile. Hopefully one day we will use this research to generate more comprehensive dietary fat guidelines to improve health outcomes.
