Andrea Sosa-Holwerda has a Master's degree in Food Technology from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, a Postgraduate in Food Safety from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, and a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science and Production from Zamorano University. Currently she is a PhD Candidate in Nutritional Sciences and Graduate Part Time Instructor at Texas Tech University. She is also the President of the Graduate Nutrition Organization at TTU. Her research is focused on sorghum and its health benefits in community nutrition and prediabetes and diabetes prevention. Her main interests are prediabetes and diabetes prevention, nutrition education, and nutrition intervention.
She is a full member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and has worked in the subdivision of nutrition and mentorship of Guatemala's chapter. She recently joined the Science Club aiming to make changes and promote science and leadership among girls, young and adult women in the scientific world.
