Objectives: To explore the positive influence of behavioural nutritional interventions on nutritional counselling outcomes.
Methods: A total of 400 participants were enrolled, extending over 3 years from January 2020 to December 2023. Anthropometric data, comprising age, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), hip & waist circumference ratio, comorbidities, and stress levels on a scale of 0-10 (0= no stress, 10= high stress) were measured. Simultaneously personality traits were established by using the DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness) assessment tool. Questionnaires were administered to the participants and the psychologist analysed the data.
Participants were categorized based on their prepotent personality types, and these findings were individually explained to them by the nutritionist. To incorporate personalized interventions to each participant’s personality type, a combination of SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis and journal writing techniques were utilized. Health coaching was given to all the participants to utilize collected information, amplify strengths & help overcome weaknesses.Â
Interventions included dietary & physical activity advice, stress-handling strategies, and inculcation of positive habits.
Results: 75% of the participants displayed positive outcomes, 15% showed neutral responses, and 10% experienced no significant changes. Incredibly, stress levels decreased from an initial average score of 9 to a final score of 2. Additionally, hormonal balance improvements and long-term healthy habits development were observed. Strong self-awareness, motivation and inclination were seen towards meeting health goals.
Conclusions: Study findings highlight the efficacy of personalized behavioural nutritional interventions in optimizing nutritional counselling outcomes. By customizing suitable interventions as per individual personality types, noteworthy lifestyle habit adaptation & positive health outcomes can be observed. This supports the urgency of incorporating personalized behavioural intervention strategies in nutrition counselling to help maintain continuous good health.
