Zhaoping Li, MD, PhD is the Lynda & Stewart Resnick Endowed Chair in Human Nutrition, Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Clinical Nutrition and the Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is also the Chair of Medicine at the Greater Los Angeles VA Health System and Executive Vice Chair of Department of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Li is board certified in internal medicine, physician nutrition specialists, a fellow of American College of Physicians. She is a former President of the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Nutrition.
Dr. Li received research training in calcium cycling and regulation in cardiomyocyte cell physiology. Her research interests span both basic and clinical research in nutrition, obesity, cancer and other age-related chronic diseases. She supervises clinical physician scientists and PhD laboratory scientists investigating food is medicine via studying gene-nutrient interaction, nutritional modulation of the microbiome, and health impacts of phytonutrients. Dr. Li has a track record of designing and implementing prospective cohort studies and clinical trials in diverse populations that involve both biological and clinical outcomes. a principal investigator for over 100 investigator-initiated National Institutes of Health and industry-sponsored clinical trials and published over 200 peer reviewed scientific papers. She is a co-editor of “Primary Care Nutrition: Writing the Nutrition Prescription” in 2017, “Nutritional Oncology” in 2021, published by CRC Press and "Precision Nutrition: The Science and Promise of Personalized Nutrition and Health" published by Elsevier.
