Dr. Jomaa is an associate professor at the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the North Carolina Central University, and an adjunct associate professor at the American University of Beirut. She has more than 13 years of experience working in academia as a university professor and researcher in the field of community and public health nutrition. Dr. Jomaa's main research interests are related to community nutrition including food and nutrition security, childhood and adolescent nutrition, nutrition education, and refugee health. She uses mixed methods approaches to identify and assess the burden of food and nutrition insecurity among vulnerable groups, including women, children, youth, refugees and underrepresented groups. In addition, her research work includes the design and evaluation of community-based nutrition interventions aimed at addressing food and nutrition insecurity and health disparities. Her recent research work involves exploring perceptions and experiences towards sustainable diets and assessing the environmental footprints associated with dietary changes observed among different population groups.
Dr. Jomaa has been an active member of the American Society of Nutrition since 2018 and she is a member of several ASN research interest groups (RIS). In 2023, Dr. Jomaa was also honored with the Mid-Career Award from the Nutrition Education and Behavioral Sciences RIS at the ASN conference. Over the years, Dr Jomaa received multiple awards in recognition of her contributions in teaching, research, and service, including the Fulbright Scholarship (2006-2008) and the World Economic Forum Young Scientist Award in 2018.
