Moneek Madra is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition at the Institute of Human Nutrition (IHN) and the Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She received her BS degree from the University of Windsor in Biological Sciences, her MS from Columbia University in Human Nutrition, and her Ph.D. from Columbia University in Nutritional & Metabolic Biology. Her PhD studies focused on the development of a novel mouse model of Anorexia Nervosa used to identify the triggers and potential therapeutic targets of the disease. Her postdoctoral work focused on the role of serotonin and early life stress in the development of irritable bowel disease.
As the Associate Program Director for the MS in Human Nutrition Program, Dr. Madra focuses on Nutrition Education in Pregnancy and Early Life, education initiatives in Clinical Nutrition, and the integration of nutrition into Medical Education. As a faculty member at the IHN she teaches courses on Physiology & Nutrition through the Lifecycle, Integrated Nutrition and Pathophysiology and Research Methods in Nutrition. She is also overseeing the coordination and completion the MS thesis process.
