Dr. Tzu-Wen Cross is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition Science at Purdue University. She is the Director of the Gnotobiotic Animal Facility at Purdue University and leads the initiative to develop this facility into a core research resource for the local research community. She earned her BS from Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, MS from the University of Missouri, PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Cardiovascular Research Center through the NIH T32 training program in translational cardiovascular science. Since earning her PhD in 2016, she has published 45 peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from fatty acid metabolism to the impact of the gut microbiome on metabolic benefits of dietary fiber. Dr. Cross’ current research focuses on understanding the impact of nutrition on the interplay between the gut microbiome and sex hormones to promote health and disease. She discovered a diet-dependent gut microbiome response to the loss of ovarian hormone production that promotes inflammation in a mouse model of human menopause. Her recent research also explores microbial metabolites of soy isoflavone and their effects on metabolic disorders and reproductive function in rodent models.
