Postdoctoral Fellow
Florida State University
Tallahassee, Florida, United States
For my doctoral studies in Nutrition Science at Florida State University (FSU), I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Gloria Salazar, Hazel K. Stiebeling Professor of Nutrition. Dr. Salazar’s vascular aging research at FSU in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology, and the Center for Advancing Exercise and Nutrition Research on Aging (CAENRA) has been funded since 2015 and continues to be funded by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR), Florida Department of Health, and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Subsequently, I joined the laboratory of Stephen Chelko, PhD, FACC, FHRS in January of 2023. In his lab, I expanded my knowledge of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) from vascular aging and atherosclerosis to Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy (ACM), an inherited, non-ischemic CVD that progresses over time. My interest in Dr. Chelko’s lab was piqued when I discovered ACM disease penetrance and progression is exacerbated by exercise; often leading to sudden cardiac arrest/death (SCD/A). Now, my projects involve exploring the role of high fat diet in disease progression and nutritional antioxidant strategies to mitigate this harm.
