PhD Candidate
University of British Columbia
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Kerri Scherbinsky completed her BSc from the University of Waterloo in Canada with a major in Biomedical Sciences and minor in Gerontology. Her passion for human reproduction combined with an interest in the physiological and biochemical aspects of nutrition and health throughout the lifespan led her to pursue a PhD in Reproductive and Developmental Sciences at the University of British Columbia with a focus on human nutrition. Her research makes use of stable isotope techniques to investigate sulfur amino acid requirements during pregnancy, highlighting the role of methionine in the one-carbon metabolism cycle and how this biochemical pathway serves as a conduit between parental environment (diet) and early development. In 2023, Kerri was the winner of ASN's Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Poster Competition in the Maternal, Perinatal and Pediatric research interest section (RIS). This year, Kerri was awarded the DJPJ Trainee Achievement Award in honor of Dr. Douglas J. Paddon-Jones' commitment to young researchers investigating dietary protein. Kerri has just served her first year as a student representative on the Maternal, Perinatal and Pediatric Nutrition RIS and looks forward to future contributions to the American Society for Nutrition.
