Dr. Sheela Sinharoy's research focuses on the nexus of energy, water, food, and gender. She is an expert in the design and evaluation of multi-sectoral global health interventions. As such, she conducts mixed-method research across sectors including household air pollution; water, sanitation, and hygiene; agriculture; and nutrition. She has additional methodological expertise in the development and psychometric evaluation of scales to measure social constructs such as empowerment. Her work incorporates a strong focus on community-based participatory processes and social inclusion. Geographically, her research spans across Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, with data collection currently underway in Fiji, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. Dr. Sinharoy holds a PhD in Nutrition and Health Sciences from Emory University.
