Dr. James Cain leads the Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) at the USDA's National Agricultural Library. He earned his MSEd in Exercise Physiology and Food & Nutrition and a PhD in Human Nutrition & Dietetics from Southern Illinois University Carbondale where his research focused on nutritional factors influencing athletic performance, obesity, and the molecular mechanisms of metabolic comorbidities. He is a Registered Dietitian with dual board certifications in sports dietetics and obesity and weight management. His experience includes prior work as the nutrition lead for the U.S. Army's Holistic Health and Fitness program, a professor and collegiate performance dietitian, and a board member of nutrition-focused nonprofit organizations.
